Welcome

The Central European Workshop on Quantum Optics (CEWQO) has provided for several years an annual forum for the European quantum optics community to present their latest scientific results. An important feature of the meeting is also the possibility for young researchers to interact with some of the leading figures in quantum optics and related fields. The 16th CEWQO brings this series for the first time to Finland. We are pleased to welcome the participants to the city of Turku on the south-west coast of Finland.

During the conference we shall also commemorate the 70th anniversary of prof. Stig Stenholm.

Turku is the central city of historical Finland, established on the mouth of river Aura on the 13th century as the administrative and clerical centre for Finland. It is also the birthplace of Finnish academic life, as the Academy of Turku was established there in 1640. In 2011, Turku will be one of the cultural capitals of Europe. The city has a strong maritime tradition and it is shielded from the Baltic Sea by a large and beautiful archipelago that attracts visitors.

The 16th CEWQO programme will start at 9.00 on Saturday 23rd of May, and it ends at 16.30 on Wednesday 27th of May. The conference venue is the new ICT building at the University of Turku campus area, located next to the Kupittaa railway station on the Turku-Helsinki railway, and within a 15-minute walk from the city centre. Participants should note that on Monday 25th the conference will be held on Viking Line ferry boat, leaving Turku harbour at 8.45 and returning to Turku at 19.50. Please note that the registration deadline for the Cruise is 22 May!

Welcome to Turku in May!
